The Plantation Inn, Maui

While vacationing in a place that has so many fun things to do, I always like to find a quite spot to kick up my feet up. I found the perfect place! The Plantation Inn on Maui offers peace and privacy but still keep you close to the action.

It’s right in the middle of Lahaina and Lahaina’s a happening place. For the attractions of Maui, you definitely come to Lahaina, at least a few times. So location and having that within walking access, so you don’t have to park and drive or anything. Once you’re here, Lahaina’s here, Lahaina’s at your doorstep. So, it’s kind of like a little oasis. You’re, maybe, not even two blocks from Front Street, and it’s so quiet right here, you can’t hear anything. It’s fantastic.

One thing that immediately sets this peaceful island oasis apart is its turn-of-the-century architecture. It’s actually a designated National Historic Landmark, so it fits into town. You don’t usually think of architecture like this and Maui. It almost looks like a slice of New Orleans with the cutwork and the stained glass, and that’s true of every room. With its double French doors opening on to the lanai, the beauty of the inn is, that it fits very well into the historic landscape of Lahaina.

Part of the charm of the Plantation Inn is that each room is uniquely crafted. The inn has 19 rooms, and each is a custom design. There are also four suites available to accomodate visitors. Honeymoon suites, a family suite with a kitchen, but most rooms are suitable for couples, they are very romantic.

Though it may have been built in a style of yesteryear, the Plantation Inn is furnished with all the luxuries of a modern hotel. The rooms are fully air-conditioned. They also have ceiling fans, so on cool evenings you can enjoy the wonderful breeze and fresh ocean air. The rooms are nicely appointed. They have refrigerators, hairdryers, the usual amenities, so, you’ve got a great hotel in a boutique hotel set up. But you’ve got the quaint, small, intimate atmosphere of an inn.

Did I say it is a bed and breakfast? Each booking includes breakfast for all paying guests, which is served from 7:30 to 9:30 am, either at the poolside or in the poolside pavilion. You can choose from Chef Reversade’s (of Gerard’s Restaurant) gourmet French Toast, poached Eggs Basquaise, or Gerard’s special blend Mueslix along with homemade yogurt or a fresh bagel with salmon and cream cheese. Alongside that entre comes fresh island fruit topped with toasted coconut, an array of tropical juices and that wonderful roast Kona coffee straight from coffee plantations on Kona.

Once you’ve settled in at the inn, treat yourself to one of the best restaurants in Maui, which just happens to be located right here in the hotel. Gerard’s is an integral part of the Plantation Inn. Chef Gerard opened his restaurant here of the inn when it was in development and they actually worked with him. They built the kitchen to his specifications and opened the inn with Gerard’s at the front. And he has been an award winning chef for years. You won’t want to miss his ahi tartar or lobster signature dish. Not to mention the simply fabulous homemade fresh fruit sorbets on the dessert menu. Delightful!
