The Goring, London

My favorite thing about the Goring Hotel is the personal attention you receive. It’s considered the only privately owned 5-star hotel in London and you’re definitely made to feel at home.

Since 1910 the Goring family has owned the hotel since 1910, and have managed to keep up the traditional standards of hotel management along with a friendly and professional attitude. You’re given a warm welcome and made to feel like part of the family when you walk through the doors. The hotel was actually the first hotel in the world to be equipped with private bathrooms and central heating in every bedroom! Always ahead of the crowd when it came to providing the best for it’s guests, the Goring today has state of the art technology in it’s spacious and comfortable guestrooms.

The location of the hotel is very centrally located and is just behind Buckingham Palace. It is so close to the palace in fact, that the Queen Mother used to be a regular visitor to the hotel often meeting her horse-racing friends here.

All of the rooms (67 rooms and 7 suites) are individually designed and air-conditioned. On my recent trip to the hotel, London hit it’s hottest day ever recorded in history and the hotel’s excellent air conditioning was my only life saver!

The hotel has a great restaurant called simply, the Dining Room. It’s spacious yet intimate and is known best for it’s excellent English food. Elegantly attired waiters are attentive but don’t hover, and a lovely pianist plays softly in the background. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner in the Dining Room and room service is available 24 hours a day.

There is also a lounge just off the lobby that you can use to relax over morning coffee and pastries or have some warm scones and clotted cream for afternoon tea. The lounge overlooks a beautiful garden through lovely French doors, and a wood burning fireplace is a warm and homey touch, especially in winter.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a centrally located luxury hotel with the warm feeling of a ‘home away from home’. The staff will definitely make you feel like you have a home inLondon to come back to. You can really tell that this hotel has been loved and nurtured by the Goring family, their staff and management, for nearly a century.
